The EU has passed the first part of the EU Taxonomy

The die is cast! The European Union has passed the first part of the EU Taxonomy, its instrument to steer investments towards sustainable economic activities.

More precisely, the EU has accepted the rules that companies have to comply with for their activities to be considered green for the environmental objectives of climate change mitigation and adaptation. The adopted rules cover sectors such as energy, transport, buildings, and manufacturing.

The more contentious activities of nuclear energy and gas have been left out of this first part and will be decided upon before the end of the year. The decision on the other four environmental objectives on water, pollution, circularity and biodiversity was foreseen for the end of this year but has been postponed to mid-2022.
