Big news in the land of sustainability reporting. SASB (the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board) and GRI (the Global Reporting Initiative) announce they will join forces. Both understand that the landscape of sustainability disclosure frameworks and standards can be confusing and reporting efforts can be high. To create more clarity and uniformity for all stakeholders, they aim to “help customers of sustainability data to understand the similarities and differences in the information created from these standards,” according to a joint release. It initially means they will deliver communication materials and examples of how some companies have been using both set of standards harmoniously, which will be published end 2020. From this onward, future joint efforts will be explored. However, both standards still value their autonomy.
